Grade 2 Reading
This term, Grade 2 students have been developing their reading comprehension skills through a focus on visualisation, text connections, predictions, and summarising. They have been learning to strengthen their predictions by using the word “because” and supporting their ideas with evidence from the text. Students have also practised summarising events in order using time connectives such as First , Then , and Next . As a class, we have been enjoying the novel Kimmi, the Queen

Grade 2 Maths
We’ve been really enjoying our maths learning in Grade 2 lately. Students have been building their confidence with place value, addition, measurement and exploring 2D and 3D shapes through hands-on activities. Our weekly problem solving lessons have been a highlight, with students trying different strategies and sharing their thinking. The regular Blitz Maths sessions are also making a big difference, with students becoming quicker and more confident with their number facts.

Grade 2 Writing
Grade 2 students have been developing their writing through ‘ All About Me’ pieces and recounts, focusing on clearly retelling past events. They have followed the writing process of planning, drafting, editing, revising, and publishing. Students are also building their skills by using time connectives to sequence events and applying “show, don’t tell” to make their writing more engaging and descriptive.

Grade 2 Spelling
In Spelling, we run Spelling Clinics that target spelling needs in small groups. We also teach 'Word Study' for 1 hour a week, that focuses on letters, sounds and words. We run 'Look, Say, Name' for 10 minutes, 3 times per week to practise our own personal words, and complete a partner spelling test weekly. Our personal words come from assessments and also our writing.
