Writing

In Writing, we focus on creating engaging texts by developing ideas, organising our writing and using language to bring our stories to life.

In Term 2, we explored narrative writing through Dreamtime stories, learning about their important cultural purpose and the features that make them unique. We also studied author Aaron Blabey, using his books as mentor texts to inspire our own writing. Students had a wonderful time creating their own Aaron Blabey-style stories, learning to zoom in on a single moment and add rich detail using the Power of Three. We explored how characters reveal their traits through their actions and used ideas from Aaron Blabey's texts to create memorable characters.

Students regularly participate in whole-class writing lessons, independent writing, conferring sessions and author's chair opportunities, helping them build confidence and develop as thoughtful, creative writers.
