The 5/6s love problem solving and have had some tough tasks to work through over the last few weeks. We have looked at strategies such as using tree diagrams to work out all combinations and working systematically through the problems. Some of the problems they have tried to solve include using a number grid to come up with 100, working through a range of different problems using tree diagrams and solving a number maze to total 100. The focus is never on having the answer at the end, but looking at the strategies the students are using to find the answer. The 5/6s are really building their toolbox of strategies that they can use if they are stuck on a problem and getting plenty of opportunities to practise them.
